normaljoy is a band that is very important, but
more on that in a minute. in 1999, scott, the
singer/songwriter, called eric – a friend and
fellow songwriter with whom scott had recorded
with several times throughout the 90’s. scott
had just left his former funk-prog-grunge band
of the previous eight years and was looking to
try his hand at writing a more emotive, dreamy
brand of music than either scott or eric had
explored. eric, coming from an american post
punk/rock background and scott, a slightly
progressive, funk-grunge hybrid, the two joined
forces and set sail on a journey into musical
madness. actually the two just got together and
started playing some of scott’s new songs, with
eric stylizing them with his heavier brand of
guitar playing. with scott’s airy vocals,
provocative lyrics and wistful melodies in place
and eric shouldering the equally poignant, yet
gnashed guitar style, a drummer and bass player
remained on the “to-do” list. mike doctorski, a
new brunswick rock scene historian, friend to
all and talented bass player, swooped in to
assist in recording normaljoy’s first offerings.
but in the end, while stellar during his session
work, mike d. was not to be a band member long
term. mike kinsey, normaljoy’s drummer, was
another story. mike k. stepped in, having been
referred to normlajoy through eric. mike k.
loved normaljoy’s music and wanted in
permanently. mike k., a drummer who always
juggles multiple projects, divides his time
between normaljoy, and the cover band, third
sun. so what of a bass player? well, with mike
d. being more than capable, but less than
available, eric located josh, a talented, speedy
punk bass player who’s gritty, punk style
garnished (think cherry on top) well the
otherwise softer songwriting style nomaljoy was
producing. so with eric, mike, scott and josh
assembled, normlajoy was born. the band has been
planning its comeback since 2003 and is now
underway preparing for a tour that will see
dates played in all four corners of the globe.

to why normaljoy is so important. normaljoy is
